A word about Medicare: Medicare will not reimburse for non-medical transportation. They will only pay for a medically necessary transport in an ambulance, usually in an emergency setting. The need for a stretcher does not constitute a medical necessity. It is fraudulent for an ambulance service to file for Medicare in a non-medical setting and claim that they performed a procedure on a patient that they did not do.
A word about Medicaid: Medicaid in Palm Beach County is organized through a broker system. In order to arrange for and have Medicaid pay for your non-medical transportation, you must call the broker (Palm Tran Connection) directly, and they will arrange for their contracted services to transport your client. Tropical Transportation is not a Medicaid provider. Tropical Transportation was started for the purpose of leaving the emergency medical services available in our county to respond to life threatening emergencies, and also to provide our clients a much less expensive option home from the hospital or to their doctors and rehab appointments.
